France: Supreme Court confirms the validity of the compensation scale for dismissed employees

  • The Supreme Court, in two judgments (n°21-14.490 and n°21-15.247) of 11 May 2022 ruled that the so called 'Macron scale' - used to calculate compensation for unfairly dismissed employees – is compatible with the International Labour Organization Convention on Termination of Employment No. 158.

  • Most of European Member States failed to transpose the EU Whistleblowing Directive within the established deadline of December 2021.
  • European Commission already sent a formal notice to 24 Members for the lack of transposition and to Sweden and Portugal for their delay in the application.

Engie signs new global framework agreement on fundamental rights and social responsibility

  • On 20 January 2022, the French energy company Engie, present in 70 countries, signed a framework agreement with three international trade union federations (IndustriAll Union, IBB and PSI) as well as with representative French trade unions at ENGIE level (CFDT, CFE-CGC, CGT and FO).
  • This  global framework agreement reflects the challenges currently facing  the company and its employees, providing a standard set of guarantees for all ENGIE employees around the world.

Germany: a new law on compulsory vaccination for health workers

  • On 10 December 2021, the Parliament passed the “Law to strengthen vaccination prevention against Covid-19".
  • By 15 March 2022, employees in clinics, nursing homes, outpatient care services and similar facilities must present proof of being vaccinated or convalescent.
