Slovakia: Labour Code Amendment 2022

  • On 4 October 2022, the Slovak parliament adopted an amendment to the Labour Code (the "Amendment") effective from 1 November 2022.
  • It mainly aims to implement two EU directives: No. 2019/1152 on transparent and predictable working conditions in the EU and No. 2019/1158 on work-life balance for parents and carers.

European Commission takes action on the transposition of the Whistleblower Protection Directive

  • Most of European Member States failed to transpose the EU Whistleblowing Directive within the established deadline of December 2021.
  • European Commission already sent a formal notice to 24 Members for the lack of transposition and to Sweden and Portugal for their delay in the application.

Slovakia: Changes to labour Code on remote working, fixed-term contracts and representativeness criteria

  • On telework, the Code establishes the rights and obligation of employers and employees.
  • The amendments defined the criteria of representativeness to sit in the Economic and Social Council of the Slovak Republic.
  • The possibility to renew fixed-term contracts has been extended to three years.
