World Employment Conference 2021

  • From 6 to 8 September 2021, the World Employment Conference held its first online event with more than 300 participants from all over the world.
  • More than 70 speakers spoke on the developments transforming labour markets and covered topics such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, career guidance, hybrid workplaces, skilling or diversity and inclusion.

  • G20 Labour Ministerial meeting took place in Sicily on 23 June 2021 and focused on three main areas: more, better, and equally paid jobs for women; social protection systems in a changing world of work; and working patterns, business organisation and production process in the digitalisation era.
  • The B20, the Business at OECD (BIAC) and the IOE have published a joint paper calling on G20 leaders to promote and facilitate access to trade finance to boost the economic recovery post COVID19 pandemic. 

Colombia: A new Law that reduces the weekly working hours from 48 to 42

August, 2021
  • On 15 July 2021, Law 2101 of 2021 came into force reducing the working week from 48 to 42 hours
  • This reduction will take effect gradually between 2023 and 2026.  
  • Salaries and social benefits will not be affected or reduced under this new law.

Danish Competition and Consumer Authority pronounces on the establishment of fees by collective agreement in a platform company

  • Two years after a platform company signed a collective agreement with a trade union, the Danish Competition and Consumer Authority considered it does not align with the EU competition law
  • The authority required the company to partially modify their business model to fully comply with the EU law

  • The meeting focused on the role of social partners within the multilateral system, the importance of social dialogue and the private sector led economic growth recovery from the pandemic 

IOE launches its Centenary Manifesto: a guide for the next centenary

  • On 2 September 2020, IOE members formally adopted the IOE Centenary Manifesto
  • The document details IOE core values inspired by its establishment a centenary ago and will continue to guide its work in the next centenary.  
  •  It elaborates on how governments and businesses can work together to meet emerging and future transformations in the world of work.
