Singapore: the government agreed to open social dialogue towards a new legislative framework for platform workers.

Following the recommendation of the Advisory Committee on Platform Workers to give platform workers the right to seek formal representation, the Tripartite Workgroup on Representation for Platform Workers (TWG) was formed in August 2022.  Platform Workers, Platform Operators, and Government representatives

On 11 July, the workgroup submitted a reporting with recommendations to draft a legislative framework which will outline how representative organizations can advocate for platform workers’ interests, The eight recommendations to improve the representation of platform workers in a sustainable way that considers the sector's unique characteristics are summarized in the following table:

 

The platform economy has rised to become an important work and services provides. The Minister carefully considered these recommendations which laid a good foundation for solid and harmonious industrial relations, the foundation of Singapore's economic progress and prosperity.

The Government has, hence, accepted all eight recommendations of the TWG and will work together with tripartite partners and platform operators to ensure effective implementation, which is expected in the second half of 2024.
