European Commission presented the European social dialogue committee for social services

  • On 10 July 2023, the Commission adopted a decision setting up the European social dialogue committee for social services.
  • It will bring together European employers and trade union organizations of the sector, encompassing approximately 9 million workers throughout the European Union.
  • It will play a crucial role in shaping policies and fostering cooperation within the sector.

Related European social partner organizations of social services presented a joint request to the Commission in 2021 to establish a social dialogue committee for the sector in discussion.

In line with the Decision 98/500/EC, the social services committee will be the 44th social dialogue committee, established more than a decade after the previous one.

Social Employers and the European Council of Regions and Municipalities (CEMR) representing European employers in social services, and the European Public Service Union (EPSU) representing European workers of the sector will be part of the Committee, as well as UNI-Europa and the European Confederation of Free Trade Unions (CESI) for the plenary meetings.

The Committee Rules of Procedure and its Work Programme will be adopted during the committee’s first meeting, which is likely to occur during the last quarter of 2023.
