Indonesia: a new COVID-19 risk assessment service for enterprises

  • On 28 September 2021, a web-based Covid-19 risk assessment service has been launched by Minister of Manpower, Ida Fauziyah, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan, Masami Tamura, and Michiko Miyamoto, Country Director for International Labour Organisation (ILO) in Indonesia.
  • The project, under the ILO’s Enhancing COVID-19 Prevention at and through Workplaces project funded by the Government of Japan, aims to promote job creation by enhancing enterprises’ safety measures to ensure safe and sustainable workplaces.

It was supported by employers’ and workers’ organizations and developed by the ILO in collaboration with the Indonesian Ministry of Manpower, supported by the Government of Japan.

The risk assessment tool was developed based on the national guideline on COVID-19 prevention and control at the workplace to support safer and more sustainable businesses during the pandemic.

Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) doctors under the Indonesian Medical Association for Occupational Health (IDKI), will provide suggestions and advices on short and long-term infection control measures for each workplace.

The project provides technical assistance to 1,500 workplaces to ensure necessary COVID-19 preventive measures are implemented and promotes preventive measures against the new coronavirus in at least 1,000 additional workplaces.

Through knowledge-sharing and awareness raising activities, it also strengthens the capacity of the government, workers’ organizations and employers’ organizations so that they can effectively cope with the pandemic today and public health crises in future.

The project is developed according to two main activities:

-      assessing the risks of virus transmission and improving COVID-19 prevention measures at workplace with the assessment tools provided to generate action plans;

-      promoting knowledge sharing and raising awareness of good OSH practices and COVID-19 prevention measures at workplaces through webinars, information kits and workshops.

The Minister of Manpower, Ida Fauziyah, underlined that this free service will strengthen the tripartite collaboration on the OSH regulatory and management system at the national and workplace level.

Danang Girindrawardana, Executive Director of the Indonesian Employers’ Association (APINDO), welcomed the initiative: “The assessment service will help enterprises to develop short and long-term infection control measures for each workplace and to support enterprises’ preparedness to respond to any outbreaks,” he said.
