Guinea Business Forum: a successful social dialogue

  • The Guinea Business Forum (GBF) platform is a space for dialogue between the State and the Guinean private sector.

Since 2019, this forum has aimed to improve the business environment through a structural transformation of the Guinean economy and by strengthening the competitiveness of the Guinean private sector.

In March 2021, the Prime Minister and Head of Government, Dr Ibrahima Kassory Fofana, launched the works of the steering committee which operationalised the GBF.

The GBF is very important for the President of the Republic, for its objective of establishing a lasting relationship of trust between the public authorities and the private sector based on permanent consultation and a mutually advantageous partnership that aims at boosting job creation in the country”.

During this first meeting, the steering committee discussed the revision of the code of investments, and the operationalization of Decree No. 263, which sets the legal and institutional framework for promotion, within the framework of the execution of public projects or projects led by private sector investors, of:

  • the use of local skills;
  • the use of locally produced services and materials;
  • the association of local businesses in the execution of projects as subcontractors or co-contractors;
  • the training of national executives and the emergence of a qualified local workforce;
  • the transfer of skills and technology;
  • the transformation and valuation of local raw materials.

The local policy developed by the Guinean government in collaboration with its partners, in particular industrial operators, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the African Development Bank and the World Bank, should allow a strong contribution of mining projects to the Guinean economy and the strengthening of capacity building for both mining industry workers and other sectors.

In April 2021, the GBF organized a workshop in Conarky on the role of the private sector in the economic and social development of the country. State representatives as well as private sector actors and social partners participated in this event.

Among the social themes discussed in this workshop there was the issue of social deductions for the social security institution from workers and companies of the private sector.

The second Vice-President of Guinea Business Forum, and President of the National Council of Guinean Patronage, Mr. Ansoumane Kaba, praised the relevance of the theme of the workshop which responds to the issues of all parties in this difficult period marked by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic both on the health of companies and on the development of the country.
