Veolia implements a new social protection programme for employees worldwide

  • Veolia launched the new 'Veolia Cares' programme to ensure a standard basic level of social protection for the Group's 213,000 employees worldwide.
  • The initiative will guarantee all employees the same level of protection, even where there is no legal standard of reference to overcome geographical disparities in social protection.

Veolia, the leading ESG company in ecological transformation, confirms the Group's social commitment to ensure its employees' professional and personal well-being.

The new, far-reaching programme will provide a generous package of employee benefits, ranging from parental leave to medical coverage, a death allowance, and caregiver support, which allows employees to take leave if they urgently need to care for seriously ill family members. The maternity or primary caregiver is entitled to at least ten weeks of leave at 100 per cent of basic pay, while the paternity or secondary caregiver will receive one week at 100 per cent.

All the benefits apply to all employees, including part-time employees, from the first day of work and in addition to all statutory benefits.

In addition, a Volunteer Day will be established, on which each employee can dedicate themselves to a charity or an environmental protection project.

In the company's press release, Estelle Brachlianoff, Chief Executive Officer of Veolia, said: "At Veolia, we are convinced that the professional and personal well-being of our employees is crucial to their commitment. They are the driving force behind the Group's performance and development. This is why we have launched this unprecedented programme for our 213,000 employees on five continents. In the years to come, the challenges of ecological transformation will become ever greater, and it is thanks to the strength, solidarity and inclusiveness of our collective we will be able to meet them".

The Group's social commitment is confirmed not only by the new programme but also by the company's significant achievements in terms of social performance.

These include employee engagement, at 89%, and the employee share ownership policy, which became Veolia's largest shareholder in January 2023.
