HanmiGlobal announced a new welfare policy

  • South Korean construction management firm HanmiGlobal announced a new welfare policy which entails additional incentives for all workers expecting a child.
  • The company’s policy is aimed to boost Korean fertility rate, which is the world lowest since 2013.

The company will offer a promotion to employees expecting a third child, regardless of their performance or length of service. It will also offer financial aid to hire babysitters for a year, to those employees with a fourth child. Additionally, the company will add 30 days of paid maternity leave to the legal 90 days. As part of the welfare policy, parental leave will be counted as service years when it comes to promotion and seniority. Moreover, applicants with children will be positively evaluations in recruitment processes, awarding them extra points. The company recognized that other ideas to promote society’s growth are being considered.

According to Statistics Korea data, the average number of female fertility rate reached 0.78 in 2022, which differs from the 2.1 rate that the country needs to maintain the population of 51.4 million.

The Government has been developing financial support for new mothers for the last 16 years and intends to increase the period of paid parental leave from one year to one and a half years. However, action is needed at all levels - national, regional, and corporate - to reverse the trend, for which active welfare policies are an essential tool in this regard.
