Covid-19 Special Edition
International Organisation of Employers (IOE) and World Employment Confederation (WEC) joined forces to develop a monthly newsletter on industrial relations and labour law.
The Newsletter focuses on relevant industrial relations matters and labour law developments at the global, sectoral and local levels. It also reports on related policies, practices, court decisions, workplace arrangements and important collective agreements. The Newsletter will also provide practical and specific insights from IOE members at the national level.
This first issue is dedicated entirely to Covid-19 and provides concrete examples of social dialogue, changes in labour laws and regulations, business contributions to the crisis, and the impact of the emergency situation on industrial relations, law and policy.
IOE Secretary General, Roberto Suárez Santos, highlighted that
“we are witnessing an unprecedented situation, that is not only a health crisis, but also an economic and social one, with consequences for the entire world. For this reason, businesses, sectors, governments, workers and citizens must adopt a threefold attitude: have a sense of anticipation, be responsible, and embrace a new way of working”.
WEC Secretary General, Denis Pennel, added: “the private employment services sector, connecting people with work and supporting businesses in finding the workforce they need, is at the forefront of the crisis. This position also affords us a unique perspective, allowing us to observe the ways in which the Covid-19 crisis is likely to affect labour markets and the way we work in a more structural, long-term way”.
